“Hasid vs Hipster – Surprising Similarities and Meaningful Differences” is the topic of the last Torah-Tuesday of the Fall 2013 semester.
There will be no Torah-Tues on the night prior to Thanksgiving (and Chanukah) weekend break, and the following week (on the 7th night of Chanukah) we will have a Chanukah Game-Show Night (with dairy dinner, Latkes, etc) instead of Torah-Tuesday. The week after that will be Midnight Breakfast, followed by Finals Week… the semester is flying.
This tumblr blog is a cute visual on Hasid or Hipster, lots of great pics, check it out. See also this “Unite the Beards” video promo for an evening for Hasids and Hipsters in Brooklyn with Chabad Rabbi Manis Friedman (scholar, mentor, author and lecturer). But our class will focus less on the visual similarities and more on the similarities and differences in the philosophical underpinnings, yearnings and goals of these wildly different movements (who live in close proximity in today’s Brooklyn neighborhoods).
Class will be at 5:45pm and 8:45pm, along with dairy dinner, soup and salad etc.
