UAlbany Chanukah celebrations get off to a late start due to the Thanksgiving Break, but there will be plenty opportunity for communal celebration once everyone gets back on Sunday or Monday after Thanksgiving.
SUNDAY NIGHT “MAARIV & MENORAH” Dec 1, 8pm at Shabbos House
This isn’t a formal event, but we’re welcoming returning students to stop by and light a Menorah, enjoy some Latkes and Chanukah treats, while we also do Minyan Maariv so that Mr. Jacobowitz can say Kaddish for a yartzeit. Shouldn’t be long, we hope to do the 10-minute Minyan at 8pm.
MONDAY “HOT LATKE TABLE” Dec 2, 11am-4:30pm outside Campus Center at Small Fountain
Lchaim’s Hot Latke Table will be outside, braving the cold. Stop by for a bunch of mini-Latkes (with applesauce, if u’d like), a Dreidel, Choco-Gelt and other Chanukah fixings. There’s no charge. We also have Menorahs and Candles available (limited supply) for those who need them for the last few days of the holiday.
MONDAY “MAJOR MENORAH LIGHTING” Dec 2, 4:30pm at the Small Fountain
6 professors from the departments/schools/majors of Business, Art-History, Computer Science, Philosophy, Political-Science, JST/History, will each kindle of the 6th lights on the Menorah (for the 6th night of Chanukah). The Shamash (helper candle) will be lit by Nancy Belowich-Negron, retiring director of the Disability Resource Center for all her work in helping students of all majors to access and reach their goals, and shine like the candles of the Menorah. There will be light Chanukah refreshments. (Plus, a Mincha Minyan for Mr. Jacobowitz saying Kaddish at approx 4pm).
