Even if not planning on going out, be sure to warm up your car in this freezing weather.
Aside for a practical cold winter weather tip (especially for those of us with older cars) it’s also a message about keeping up routines & rhythms, not getting rusty or out of shape, don’t be “down” or “off” too long that it won’t work the same anymore.
Rivka’s now learning to read and it’s really important to keep up her nightly reading. If you let it lapse for a vacation or even a long weekend, it’s a lost opportunity for growth and may even be a setback. Exercise is like this, too (but harder for us to keep up the walking in this frost, have to push ourselves!).
Judaism is really big on daily routines. Don’t let a weekday go by without Tefillin, to recite the Shema or giving charity. There’s a mitzvah to do (even a little bit of) Torah study each day and each night. It’s not enough that the annual total accumulates, but that we do a little each day. It says “Abraham got old, & came along with (all of) his days.” No day left behind!
Warm up that car.
