This week’s Freshmen Move-In weekend coincides with Parsha Shoftim where we read a lot about the laws of Jewish kings and judges, how to know whom to trust as a true prophet and about matters of communal responsibility.
Why all these laws in this Parsha? It may be because the Jews are about to enter the land of Israel. They are going to start something new in a new place and for it to work they will need systems of governance and leadership.
The same is true as you embark on your college career. It’s healthy and important to have good role models and positive leadership to help you navigate this experience and assist in your personal growth. Thankfully, we see some very good student leadership here this Shabbos, eager to help you get involved, find your place and become part of the Jewish campus community.
